Scam alert from TymeBank.

Hackers and scammers really are turning up the heat. We’ve just been alerted of yet another one that’s happening all over the world and even here in our very own Mzansi.

How the latest scam works

You get sent an SMS with an embedded link (bit.ly).

The message will trick you into clicking on the link. It may be to win something, apply for something or inherit something. These guys make it seem so believable, which is how they catch you.

If you do click on the link, it will take you to a fake website asking for your internet banking details (your ID number and password).

The second you fill in your login details on this fake website, the fraudster uses your information to make unauthorised transactions.

Here’s an example of a scam SMS. Be careful, they can come in all shapes and forms

What to do if you click on a link

Call our fraud hotline on 0860 999 119 ASAP if you suspect anything dodgy is happening on your account.

Keep safe. Warn your friends

Please be super careful and don’t fall victim to this scam. Tell your aunties, tell your friends about it. And remember, TymeBank will NEVER ask you to click on a link containing bit.ly.

You’ve got this!
